Republicans on Wednesday night postponed a critical vote on Todd Blanche’s nomination as attorney general after two key G.O.P. senators threatened to derail it over a deal he cut to settle President Trump’s lawsuit against the I.R.S.
The senators, John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who are not returning to Congress next year, accused Mr. Blanche of refusing to put on paper his promise to kill aspects of the deal.
In June, Mr. Blanche said he would drop a proposed $1.8 billion fund to compensate purported victims of Biden-era actions by the Justice …More

‘THE PASSION AND CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE SEVEN LAST WORDS FROM THE CROSS’ By St. ALPHONSUS de LIGUORI – ‘VII. THE SEVEN WORDS SPOKEN BY JESUS…’; points 1; pp. 11-12

[Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori – XVII – XVIII Century AD; born: Marianella, Kingdom of Naples/died: Pagani, Kingdom of Naples; (aged 90); spiritual writer, composer, musician, artist, poet, lawyer, scholastic philosopher, and theologian, Founder, Bishop, Doctor of the Church]
VII. THE SEVEN WORDS SPOKEN BY JESUS CHRIST ON THE CROSS
1. "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Lk 23:34)
O loving tenderness of Jesus towards men!
St. Augustine says that when the Savior was injured by his enemies, he besought pardon for them; for he thought not so much of the injuries he received from them, and the [280] death they inflicted upon him, as upon the love which brought him to die for them.
But some may say, Why did Jesus pray to the Father to pardon them, when he himself could have forgiven their injuries? St. Bernard replies that he prayed to the Father, not because he could not himself forgive them, but that he might teach us to pray for them that persecute us. The holy abbot …More

The New Civil Code Draft: A Dictatorship in the ‘Political Opening’?

– Folha de S. Paulo, May 16, 1984 –
by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
We still live — and increasingly so — under the banner of openness. Therefore, comments on current Brazilian affairs often mention this.
‘Openness’ here means the freedom for everyone to think, speak, act, move freely, and do more or less whatever they want; a freedom that constantly expands and therefore has no clear limits.
Many believed that once this freedom was established, everything in the country would be heading toward resolution. They overlooked that liberalizations without clear boundaries neither create nor strengthen true freedom. Since they tend to allow everyone to do whatever they want, these liberalizations can actually lead to chaos, and eventually to an even worse dictatorship.
In fact, undefined liberalization inevitably turns chaotic, and gradually, a terrible enemy emerges before them. This enemy is an unwritten law, not created through legislation, but painfully real, howling, originating from the …More

‘Works’ – Saint Elisabeth of the Trinity - I. HEAVEN IN FAITH - Eighth Day – First Prayer; points 26-27; pages 10-11

Eighth Day ~ First Prayer
26. “Those whom God has foreknown, He has also predestined to become conformed to the image of His divine Son...
And those whom He has predestined, He has also called; and those whom He has called He has also justified; and those whom He has justified He has also glorified. What then shall we say after that? If God is for us, who can be against us?... Who will separate me from the love of Christ?” (Rom 8:29-31, 35) This is how the mystery of predestination, the mystery of divine election appeared to the enlightened gaze of the Apostle. “Those whom He has foreknown.” Are not we of that number? Cannot God say to our soul what He once said through the voice of His prophet: “I passed by you and saw you. I saw that the time had come for you to be loved. I spread my garment over you. I swore to you to protect …More

The SSPX is the easy part

[wherepeteris.com] By Mike Lewis
One of the stranger developments surrounding the illicit Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) episcopal consecrations on July 1 was the sudden outbreak of agreement among Catholics across the spectrum that the Society had gone too far — they had committed a schismatic act and had incurred automatic excommunication from the Catholic Church. On the eve of the Écône ceremony, Pope Leo XIV warned the SSPX of the consequences of following through with their plans. On the day after the consecrations, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued the decree of excommunication and its explanatory note confirming that SSPX clergy are in schism. In the days and weeks since, diocesan bishops have warned the faithful not to attend SSPX liturgies and explained the illicit (and sometimes invalid) nature of their sacraments. Very few prominent figures outside the SSPX seem to have taken up their cause. The most conspicuous exceptions — Bishop Athanasius Schneider, who …More

Does your country or state look like this?

We are experiencing a huge rise in our food bills. And many foods are disappearing. Many people can't afford to eat a decent meal anymore. With the west and US trying to cripple Russia and starve her, it is obvious it isn't working. Instead it has backfired on us. I think there were close to 40,000 sanctions on Russia in the beginning of this year. Trump put more on them. And not only planning to put a huge package of sanctions on Russia, but he is encouraging everyone else to do the same.
I will first post this video. Don't go beyond the food market. He made me very hungry. 😬 After the market he will do a small walk around the city of Saint Petersburg. Then he is stuffing his face again. So be ready. He orders two different soups. Stroganoff, fish and other delicious foods. Where did he put all that food? Your guess is as good as mine.

Irish Church Shrinks: Leo XIV De Facto Merges Two Dioceses

Today, Leo XIV appointed Bishop Gerard Nash, 67, as Bishop of Ossory while he remains also Bishop of Ferns. The pope united two neighboring Irish dioceses in persona episcopi.
Under this arrangement, both dioceses retain for now their separate legal identities but are entrusted to the same bishop.
Bishop Nash has led the Diocese of Ferns since 2021 and has served as Apostolic Administrator of Ossory since January 2026. Together, the two dioceses serve less than 200,000 Catholics.
The appointment marks another step in the ongoing restructuring of the shrinking Church in Ireland. The policy of diocesan consolidation is clearly expanding beyond western Ireland
While three previous in persona episcopi unions took place within the Ecclesiastical Province of Tuam in western Ireland, the union of Ferns and Ossory is the first outside that province.
